Biathalon (age 10+)
Biathlon is the sport of cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship. Young skiers can start in biathlon once they have the ability to skate ski, which is learned in level 4 of the Skill Development Programs and are at least age 10. Instruction is provided on shooting competency in both precision and biathlon style shooting, which includes shooting with an elevated heart rate, as well as ski racing technique. This group meets three times per week in the ski season which includes twice with the Cross-Country Race Group and once as the Biathlon group to focus on the shooting aspect of the sport. During the non-winter seasons, this group meets once a week to work on shooting skills. Those who choose to do biathlon are encouraged to participate in the biathlon races hosted across BC.
